The National Wax Museum Plus has postponed the unveiling of a new statue of Sinéad O’Connor to replace the one previously withdrawn following anger from her family.

The likeness of the singer was set to be shown to the public this Thursday, almost three years after her death aged 56.

In 2024, the museum was forced to remove a statue of the Nothing Compares 2 U star after it caused uproar amongst her family.

And now, the unveiling of the replacement work has also been put back.

In a statement, the National Wax Museum Plus apologised for the delay and said this was due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’, and that ‘a new launch date will be announced in due course’.

When asked by Extra.ie why this Thursday’s reveal has been postponed, organisers declined to respond.

The Dublin museum released a statement last weekend saying that the new and improved figure was created ‘following a process of careful consideration, research and craftsmanship’.

In the statement, the facility admitted it was ‘clear’ that the initial waxwork ‘didn’t meet the museum’s standards’.

The first waxwork was removed just one day after its unveiling after Sinéad’s brother, John O’Connor, told RTÉ’s Liveline that it was ‘hideous’ and ‘looked like something out of the Thunderbirds.
