Robbie Williams has addressed the viral moment that left fans wondering what flew out of his mouth during his live TV appearance at the Men’s World Cup Final.

The singer, who opened the tournament finale by performing Desire alongside Laura Pausini and Nicole Scherzinger, became an unexpected talking point after a small white object landed on his microphone during a post-match interview.

After casually removing it from the mic, Robbie accidentally transferred it onto his forehead, with the clip quickly going viral across social media.

Some viewers initially speculated the object had come from his nose, while others insisted it had fallen from his mouth and was likely a mint.

Now, the 52-year-old has put the rumours to bed in trademark fashion.

Taking to Instagram, Robbie shared a tongue-in-cheek video from bed, saying: ‘I’d just like to apologise for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday.

‘I was deeply unprofessional, and people worried about me.’

He then stuck out his tongue to reveal two circular mints, joking: ‘But it’s OK… because I had several more!’

The Angels singer burst into laughter before ending the clip, clearly amused by the online frenzy.

Fans were quick to praise Robbie for seeing the funny side, with singer Michael Bublé commenting: ‘Legend.’

Another fan joked: ‘Winner of World Cup 2026 – Robbie Williams.’

A third added: ‘Now this is why we love you.’

The singer’s response comes after widespread speculation online about the mystery object, with many social media users slowing down footage from the broadcast to argue it had clearly fallen from his mouth rather than his nose.

According to The Sun, the object was in fact a partially chewed Nicorette mint.

A source told the publication: ‘Poor Rob woke up to hundreds of messages from pals and fans asking what on earth was going on.

‘He was obviously a bit bemused before realising people had seen the Nicorette mint plopping from his mouth and thinking it was something dodgy.

‘Which, clearly, it was not.’

The insider added that Robbie ‘has a cracking sense of humour and has taken it all in his stride.’

Robbie has been open for years about his sobriety journey, having previously spoken candidly about his struggles with alcohol and drugs and his time in rehab.

The singer, now more than two decades sober, later returned his focus to football during the broadcast, describing the 2026 Men’s World Cup as his favourite tournament yet because it had become a ‘massive bonding’ experience with his 13-year-old daughter, Teddy.

He also promised fans he would be back for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil, though he may decide to finish his mints before going live on air.
