Emergency services are at the scene of a suspected stabbing incident in the Holy Cross Church, Tramore.

Several units of An Garda Siochana and the National Ambulance Service responded to a call before 10am this morning.

A female in her 50s is believed to have been stabbed on the altar of the church.

She has been transferred to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of her injuries, which are believed to be a single stab wound.

Injuries sustained are not believed to be life-threatening.

A male is in custody in connection with the incident.
