A Channel 4 host has revealed the hilarious reason behind his now-famous ‘gotta go’ sign-off, after viewers were left in stitches by his unusually speedy exit from the news studio.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who has presented Channel 4 News since 1998, is known for his calm and professional delivery when covering some of the biggest stories from around the world.

But last week, viewers saw a very different side to the veteran broadcaster when he appeared to rush through the end of the programme before making a swift departure from the studio.

After delivering his usual closing line, Krishnan said: ‘That’s it for this evening. We’re back at 7 tomorrow night,’ before adding:

‘Until then, gotta go – bye!’

The 56-year-old then removed his microphone, pulled out his earpiece and quickly walked off camera as the closing music played.

The unusual moment was shared online by @jonoread on X, who joked: ‘When you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go.’

Krishnan later joined in on the joke by sharing the clip himself and admitting he was racing against time to make it for the England World Cup semi-final kick-off.

‘It was 5 minutes to kick off…!’, he tweeted.

While Krishnan made it out of the studio in time, England fans were left disappointed as Thomas Tuchel’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat after initially taking the lead.
