Ireland has just enjoyed the hottest day of 2026 so far, with temperatures of 21°C recorded in counties Roscommon, Sligo and Mayo.

But don’t get too comfortable as Met Éireann is warning that a significant change is coming by the end of the week.

According to Met Éireann’s national forecast, Monday will see highs of 13 to 19 degrees with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, best in the south and southeast, with a light northerly breeze.

Tuesday looks similar with dry sunny spells and highs of 13 to 19 degrees, warmest in the west.

Wednesday will unfortunately be the last of the current heatwave with dry and sunny conditions and temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees.

Weather U-Turn

After that, the picture changes sharply as the national forecaster says showery rain will develop in the south and southwest on Wednesday night, possibly spreading northeastwards on Thursday.

Friday brings a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which could turn heavy.

And for anyone hoping the bank holiday weekend might salvage things, the national forecaster says the outlook is mixed, with showers alongside drier spells, and temperatures noticeably cooler than this week.

In summary, make the most of the next two days while you can.
