A teenage boy is in a critical condition in hospital after he was involved in an E-scooter crash in County Longford last night.

The teenager and a female passenger, also in her teens, were both travelling on the E-scooter when they were involved in what Gardaí have described as a single-vehicle road traffic collision on Battery Road in Longford at around 10.30 pm on Friday night.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, and the male driver of the E-scooter was taken to Mullingar Regional Hospital but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where his condition is described as critical.

The teenage girl is being treated in Mullingar Regional Hospital, where her injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

The road is currently closed pending technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the vicinity of Battery Road, Longford, Co. Longford between 10:15 pm and 10:45 pm on Friday 28th August 2026 are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
