MountSion are the 2026 Waterford Junior Hurling champions after a 2-21 to 1-18 victory over Abbeyside/Ballinacourty in the county final.

It was a hard-fought contest, and MountSion’s greater attacking quality proved decisive, with Evan McGrath leading the way for the winners.

The first major turning point came in the second half when Scott Ryan’s effort struck the crossbar before bouncing down and over the goal line. The umpires immediately raised the green flag, giving MountSion their second goal and opening up an eight-point lead.

Abbeyside/Ballinacourty refused to give up, with Joe Flynn finding his range from a 65 to reduce the deficit to five points.

However, MountSion continued to manage the game well, and McGrath stepped up when it mattered most, converting a late free to restore a five-point advantage.

Teenager Jack Teat then added his third point of the afternoon to put six between the sides as the game entered injury time.

Abbeyside/Ballinacourty pushed forward in search of a late goal, but MountSion’s defence held firm.

There was still time for a late scare when Jack Teat went through on goal looking to put the game beyond doubt, but Abbeyside goalkeeper Stephen Enright produced an excellent save.

MountSion remained composed through the closing stages before referee Martin Freeman brought proceedings to an end.

Captain Evan McGrath led his side from the front, Lee Flanagan and Charlie Costello among the other MountSion players to impress, while Teenager Jack Teat was named Man of the Match,

For Abbeyside/Ballinacourty, there was plenty of endeavour throughout, but they were unable to find the goals needed to turn the contest around.

In the end, MountSion’s combination of youth and experience saw them over the line as they were crowned Waterford Junior Hurling champions for 2026.
