Waterford Women secured a first Women’s Premier Division victory since April after a dramatic 2-1 win over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.

Fiana Bradley gave Waterford the perfect start when she found the net after 13 minutes, putting the visitors in front.

Sligo Rovers responded strongly and created a number of opportunities, but Waterford goalkeeper Maeve Williams produced an excellent performance between the posts to keep her side ahead.

Gio Dionicio came close on several occasions before eventually getting her reward in the 86th minute, bringing Sligo level and setting up a tense finish.

However, Waterford struck in stoppage time to take all three points. Jessica Lawler pounced after a mistake outside the Sligo penalty area and found the net in the 93rd minute.

The result ends Waterford’s wait for a league victory and gives them a valuable boost as the Women’s Premier Division campaign reaches its later stages.
