Arne Slot has written a heartfelt open letter to Liverpool supporters following his sacking, telling fans the connection they share ‘goes beyond football.’
The Dutchman was relieved of his duties at Anfield on Saturday, just 12 months after guiding the Reds to only their second league title in 35 years. A dismal title defence that ended in a fifth-place finish ultimately cost him his job.
In the letter, published by the Liverpool Echo, Slot reflected on his two years at the club and the bond he formed with the Anfield faithful.

He said winning the Premier League was ‘beyond special,’ and described the connection with supporters as something that transcended European nights and the sound of You’ll Never Walk Alone ringing out from the Kop.
He said the fans had made him feel welcome from the start and helped him on his path, something he said he would always cherish.
As well as thanking fans, Slot paid tribute to players, staff and the club’s owners.
‘It has been a pleasure working with you all,’ he said.
‘Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. For that we should all be proud.
‘I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead. The players who have given so much to this club, who have upheld its values and helped create so many unforgettable moments, have built foundations that will endure.’
He also accepted the club’s decision to move on, acknowledging that change is part of football and expressing his belief that Liverpool would continue to make its people proud.
Slot’s departure brings an end to a rollercoaster two-year spell on Merseyside. His debut season delivered the league title in stunning fashion, but his second was beset by a sharp decline in form, mounting fan frustration, and a trophyless campaign.
Andoni Iraola is the early favourite to succeed him, with Liverpool keen to have a new head coach in place well before pre-season begins in July.
