Over 100 cyclists to take on 600km challenge across Munster this August in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland
Preparations are underway for the 26th annual Tour de Munster charity cycle, which was officially launched by Irish Olympic cyclists Kelly Murphy and Ciarán Power at Mount Congreve, Waterford on Friday, 19th June.
Tour de Munster 2026 will take to the road from Thursday, August 6th to Sunday, August 9th and will see over 100 cyclists venture 600km across the six counties of Munster to raise much-needed funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI).
Since its inception, Tour de Munster has raised more than €5.5 million for its charitable beneficiaries, with the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland serving as the event’s primary beneficiary since 2010. Funds raised through the annual charity cycle help provide vital services and supports for people with Down syndrome and their families across the region, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, employment support programmes, and a range of practical resources that enhance quality of life and promote greater independence.

As cyclists prepare to take on this year’s cycle, Tour de Munster continues its longstanding commitment to making a meaningful difference in communities across Munster while raising awareness and support for the invaluable work of Down Syndrome Ireland.
Speaking at the launch, Founder and Organiser of Tour de Munster, Paul Sheridan said: “I’m thrilled by the turnout here at Mount Congreve as we celebrate the official launch of the 2026 Tour de Munster. It’s especially fantastic to have Olympic cyclists Kelly Murphy and Ciarán Power with us to lend their support to this year’s cycle.
“A heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the supporters of the Tour, including our sponsors, volunteers, and the dedicated cyclists who contribute to making a tangible difference in the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families throughout Munster.”
Irish Olympic cyclist Kelly Murphy, joined by supporters, sponsors and participants to officially launch the 2026 Tour, said: “Tour de Munster is an amazing display of human spirit. This event is no small feat, so having a charitable cause to ride for really helps dig out that extra grit and will to keep going. It’s not about being the fastest or crossing the finish line first, it’s about wanting to keep yourself moving forward, knowing the difference your cycling will make to the lives of people with Down syndrome. I’m delighted to support the launch of the Tour this year.”
Claire Power, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Ireland, Waterford and South Kilkenny Branch, said: “We are especially proud in Waterford to welcome the launch of this year’s Tour de Munster. It is a privilege to be part of an event that has shown such unwavering dedication over the past 16 years in support of Down Syndrome Ireland. The commitment of the cyclists, organisers, sponsors, and supporters is truly inspiring. The funds raised are essential in delivering life-changing services, with speech and language therapy making a significant difference in helping individuals with Down syndrome develop confidence, communication skills, and independence. We extend our sincere thanks and wish all participants the very best for the journey ahead.”
