The country is set to see limited sunshine this Bank Holiday, in a firm end to the nice weather spell.

We’ve enjoyed high temperatures and sunshine over the past week and a half, with many enjoying the lovely weather (save for Thursday where the rain didn’t seem to stop).

But, of course, all good things have to come to an end — with Met Éireann saying that, while things will remain somewhat settled for the coming week, temperatures will cool down thanks to a northern airflow.

Met Éireann warned that the northerly airflow will establish itself over the country, meaning that it will be ‘cool for the time of year’ — but, in a spot of good news, it will be dry for the most part this week.

Looking to the weather for Saturday, Met Éireann says that it will be often cloudy alongside some sunny spells in the mix. Showers will be fairly widespread, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms in the west. Highest temperatures of 12C to 17C.

Many areas will become dry on Saturday night, but outbreaks of rain and drizzle will persist in the east and southeast. There will also be a mix of cloud and clear spells at first, but mist and fog will develop. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 10C.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, and patches of mist over the eastern half of the country; limited bright or sunny spells with showers further out west, some of which will turning heavy in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 11C to 16C.

Sunday night will be generally dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells, alongside the odd light shower. Colder, too, with lowest temperatures of 4C to 9C, coolest in the north.

Bank Holiday Monday will be generally cloudy, with limited sunny spells — but it will stay mostly dry aside from some patches of light rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 11C to 14C. The odd patch of light rain and drizzle will continue on Monday night.

Tuesday will be generally cloudy with some patches of light rain and drizzle, gradually dying out through the day with some bright spells developing from the north. Highest temperatures of 9C to 13C, highest in the south.

Wednesday will be generally dry, also, but quite cloudy with just limited sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 8C to 13C.

Looking to the rest of the week, Met Éireann say that while there’s uncertainty in the detail, current indications suggest that conditions will become more unsettled with low pressure becoming dominant.
