The warm weather is set to return to Ireland over the weekend — but only for half of the country.
The country enjoyed, and then some might say ‘suffered ‘ sunny weather and temperatures soaring to the high 20s and low 30s intermittently over the last few weeks.
While the hot weather was around a few times over the past few weeks, the rain and clouds came back with a vengeance last week. However, a high-pressure system is forecast to move in, with its tail end reaching our shores.

Despite the tail end of the high-pressure system reaching Ireland, the cruel twist is that it will only reach the Sunny South East of the country — while the northwest will experience more of the same wind and rain.
Meteorologist and social media guru Alan O’Relly from Carlow Weather has since confirmed that we’ll be having a tale of two Irelands this weekend, writing on Twitter (X): ‘Latest forecast of total rainfall and airmass temperatures for Europe over next 10 days.
‘Rainfall mainly in the northwest of Ireland, and on this model, the really warm air largely avoids Ireland, but it will still be above 25c for a couple of days next week.’

Looking to Met Éireann’s forecast, Thursday will kick off with cloudy conditions and isolated patches of drizzle in Connacht and Ulster. Dry elsewhere, with sunny spells developing across the south and east before spreading further north. Highest temperatures from 15C in the northwest, to 23C in the southeast.
Thursday night will be dry for most with clear spells, though staying cloudy in the northwest with the odd isolated shower. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 13C.
Friday will be generally cloudy with the best of any sunny spells in the southeast. Dry at first with scattered patches of light rain and drizzle spreading from the west, most persistent in the north and northwest. Highest temperatures of 18C to 23C.

It will be clear at times on Friday night, but overall generally cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle. Mild and humid, with temperatures not falling below 13C to 16C.
Saturday will be rather cloudy overall, with rain across Connacht and Ulster spreading eastwards during the morning. Cloudy with patchy drizzle elsewhere, becoming more persistent for a time in the afternoon, with highest temperatures of 17C to 23C.
Looking to the rest of the weekend, Met Éireann warned that it will be mixed overall, with dry and milder conditions over the southern half of the country. Perhaps a little wetter and cloudier across the north.
