
Stephen Ireland’s wife, Jessica, has provided an update after the former Irish international required urgent medical attention over the weekend.
The midfielder, who plays for Wythenshawe Vets, suffered a serious injury during the opening 30 minutes of the cup final.
The clash against South Liverpool veterans was suspended as the 39-year-old received medical attention, following a heavy tackle.

Video footage of the incident has appeared online, with a loud crack heard during the tackle.
Ireland was taken away via an ambulance, much to the horror of onlookers.
On Sunday evening, a statement from Wythenshawe Vets provided a positive update.

‘Stephen is overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the support following today’s incident in the Veterans Final,’ the club wrote.
A message from Ireland’s wife Jessica, extended thanks to all who helped during the incident.
‘It was a really upsetting and shocking moment, but the care and unity shown made a huge difference,’ she said.
‘We are so grateful not only to the Wythenshawe FC fans, but also to South Liverpool Vets and everyone at Warrington Rylands: you were all outstanding.’
Wythenshawe FC added a thanks to paramedics and the ambulance team from Warrington Hospital for their ‘swift and professional care.’
Messages of support and well wishes were shared in the comments, with one writing: ‘Speedy recovery Stevie,’ and another adding: ‘My hero.’
The veterans team based in Greater Manchester has pulled in some big names throughout the season, including a number of former Premier League stars.
Ireland plays alongside such big names as Papiss Cisse, Oumar Niasse, George Boyd and more.
The team are currently top of the Cheshire Vets League, and remain undefeated after their opening ten league fixtures, with a six-point advantage, and 77 goal difference.
