Wally O’Neill of CLG Fionnúir has been named the Munster runner-up in the initiative, which celebrates volunteers who make a lasting contribution to their local GAA clubs and communities.

The annual campaign, now in its second year, is organised by EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity grid and the official Timing Partner of the GAA and Camogie Championships.

Almost 80 nominations were received from across the province over a four-week period. The Munster title was awarded to Liam Evans of St James’ GAA in Clonakilty, County Cork, while O’Neill was recognised for his commitment and service to CLG Fionnúir.

As runner-up, CLG Fionnúir will receive €1,500, while the winning club receives €5,000. The four provincial winners from across Ireland will now compete for an additional national prize worth €5,000.

Head of Public Engagement at EirGrid, Sinead Dooley, said the organisation was “delighted” by the standard of nominations received.

She said the entries demonstrated the “exceptional amount of time and energy” GAA volunteers dedicate to helping their clubs and communities thrive, adding that both Liam Evans and Wally O’Neill had shown inspiring commitment deserving of recognition.
