Bruno Fernandes was the star of the show as Manchester United claimed a first Premier League win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

The United captain scored a hat-trick in just 28 minutes, adding another memorable performance to his growing list of achievements at the club.

Ipswich had taken an early lead through Leif Davis, but Fernandes levelled shortly before half-time.

United then moved ahead in fortunate circumstances when Harry Maguire’s effort took a deflection off Jacob Greaves and found the net, despite protests from the Ipswich players.

Fernandes added his second from the penalty spot just moments later before completing his hat-trick.

The Portugal international then turned provider, setting up Bryan Mbeumo for United’s fifth, while Chuba Akpom grabbed a late consolation for Ipswich.

Manchester United finished with 33 attempts on goal, with Fernandes responsible for eight of those.

There was also a thrilling afternoon at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea made it three wins from three under Xabi Alonso with a 4-3 victory over Brighton.

Chelsea raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening 32 minutes, with Joao Pedro among the scorers and also providing an assist for Cole Palmer.

Pedro Neto also found the net, while Romeo Lavia scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea.

Brighton refused to give up and fought their way back into the contest, with Malick Yalcouye and Pascal Gross getting on the scoresheet.

An own goal from Joao Pedro added further drama, but Chelsea held on for all three points despite a late Brighton fightback.

Elsewhere, Leeds United came from behind to draw 1-1 with Brentford at Elland Road.

Kevin Schade put the visitors ahead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised with 11 minutes remaining.

The goal means Calvert-Lewin has now scored in each of the last 11 Premier League seasons.

And Sunderland claimed their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Fulham.

Wilson Isidor came off the bench to score the only goal of the game, leaving Fulham still searching for their first Premier League victory under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
