Community groups across Waterford are being encouraged to apply for funding under the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF), which aims to support projects that improve the local environment.

More than €100,000 will be available through the initiative, with approximately €50,000 provided by IPB Insurance and matched by Waterford City and County Council through existing environmental and community funding programmes.
The fund is open to projects that promote biodiversity, enhance habitats, create community gardens, tackle litter, raise environmental awareness and support small-scale climate action initiatives.
Speaking about the fund, former Cathaoirleach of the Comeragh District, Cllr. Seanie Power, said it provides an opportunity for communities to take the lead in protecting and enhancing their local environment.
He said the funding will help local groups turn ideas into action while supporting more sustainable, resilient and vibrant communities across Waterford.
Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins welcomed the initiative, saying it will support the work already being carried out by Tidy Towns groups, residents’ associations and community organisations.
He said the partnership between IPB Insurance and Ireland’s 31 local authorities will deliver meaningful investment directly into communities and make a visible difference in towns and neighbourhoods.
Applications for the Local Environmental Action Fund are now open and will be accepted until Friday, July 24th.
Further information, including application forms and eligibility criteria, is available on the Waterford City and County Council website.
