An appeal has been made for information after water intended for participants in the Comeragh Crossing was stolen from the Nire Lakes car park overnight.
Local Fine Gael Cllr. Niamh O’Donovan highlighted the incident on social media on Saturday morning, describing the theft as ‘very disappointing’ ahead of the annual event.
In a post on Facebook, Cllr. O’Donovan said: ‘Water for the Comeragh Crossing today has been stolen from Nire Lakes car park last night. What is wrong with people! Please, if you’ve any information let us know.’
The Comeragh Crossing is a popular walking and hiking event through the Comeragh Mountains, attracting participants from across Waterford and the country each year. Volunteers spend considerable time organising the event, including ensuring walkers have access to water and other essential supplies along the route.
Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Nire Lakes area overnight, or who has information relating to the theft, is being asked to come forward.
