After a couple of weeks of sunny skies, it looks like Ireland will be brought back down to earth early next week.

The past couple of weeks have been sunny skies, as well as temperatures reaching close to 20 degrees in parts of the country.

However, the May bank holiday weekend is set to be a bit cooler than the recent lovely spell.

Met Éireann released its forecast for the weekend, where it said Saturday would be met with cloudy conditions and widespread showers, with Sunday looking similar.

Then for the actual Bank Holiday itself, it ‘will be a generally cloudy day for most but staying mostly dry apart from some patchy light rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in light to moderate northerly breezes.’

That dreariness is to continue into the week as Carlow Weather tweeted out that ‘temperatures will struggle to get above 10C by day and nights will be cool under any clear skies, so gardeners take note.’

Met Éireann confirmed the forecast with its outlook for next week.

On Tuesday, the forecaster said it will be ‘remaining cloudy with scattered outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, gradually clearing from the north through the evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees, warmest to the south.

‘Looking out to next week,’ they added, ‘current indications suggest a return of high pressure will allow conditions to become drier but remain cloudy. It will become milder towards the end of next week too.’

Ah well, the sunny weather fun while it lasted, wasn’t it?
