The South East Technological University (SETU) has launched a brand new Bachelor of Business in Hospitality and Tourism Management, which is an innovative part-time degree that enables students to combine both paid employment with higher education while preparing the next generation of leaders for Ireland’s hospitality and tourism sector.
Applications are now open for the degree, with the programme due to begin in September.
The work-integrated learning degree allows students to remain in paid employment while completing their studies, attending classes one day a week and applying what they learn directly in the workplace.
SETU says the programme was developed alongside industry partners and is designed to help address skills needs identified in the Government’s A New Era for Irish Tourism 2025–2030 strategy, which encourages stronger links between higher education and the tourism industry.
Programme Leader Jacinta Greene-Beatty says the initiative offers a flexible route into higher education while helping to strengthen Ireland’s hospitality and tourism workforce.
The course was developed following consultation with organisations including Fáilte Ireland, the Irish Hotels Federation, the Irish Hospitality Institute, the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation and the South East Regional Skills Forum.
Research carried out by the South East Regional Skills Forum also found strong industry support, with more than four in five hospitality businesses surveyed expressing an interest in taking part.
Sarah Dolly, Head of Tourism Careers at Fáilte Ireland, says the programme will help build practical skills, leadership and management expertise while creating more accessible pathways into careers in the sector.
Eligible participants may also receive funding of up to 40% of programme fees through County Wexford Chamber Skillnet, while SUSI part-time funding is available for qualifying applicants.
Graduates will be prepared for supervisory and management roles across hotels, restaurants, visitor attractions, tourism organisations, events and other hospitality businesses.

Applications are now open on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible candidates, with further information available through SETU.
