Waterford City & County Council has granted planning permission to Genzyme Ireland Ltd., trading as Sanofi, for new extension works at its facility in the IDA Industrial Park on Old Kilmeadan Road, Waterford.

The approved development will include the construction of a single-storey cold room extension and a single-storey electrical switch room extension to the north of the existing site.

The project will also involve associated site works, including drainage improvements, alterations to existing site levels, and other ancillary development works required to support the extensions.

The planning application was submitted on 22 May 2026. Waterford City & County Council issued its decision to grant permission on 15 July 2026, subject to five conditions.

In its decision, the council said the proposed development was considered acceptable having regard to the nature of the works, the zoning of the area, and the existing industrial activity in the surrounding area.

The conditions attached to the permission include requirements that the development is carried out in accordance with the submitted plans, that any surplus excavated material is removed to an authorised facility, and that contractors prevent construction debris or materials from affecting nearby roads.

Sanofi must also ensure that all surface water generated by the new development is directed into the existing drainage system serving the site.

The planned works represent a further investment in Sanofi’s Waterford operations, supporting upgrades to the company’s existing industrial facility.
