A total of €318,691 has been allocated to four Waterford projects under the 2026 Community Monuments Fund.
The funding is part of an overall fund of €8million awarded to 104 heritage projects nationally.
These grants help owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them into the future and improve access.
The four successful Waterford projects are:
· Blackfriars Abbey – €100,000
· Dunmore East Tower – €100,000
· Augustinian Friary Chancel – €88,691
· Crooke Religious House – €30,000
Three projects (Blackfriars Abbey, Dunmore East Tower and Augustinian Friary Chancel) received funding under Stream 1, which provides grants up to €100,000 aimed at essential repairs and capital works for the conservation and repair of archaeological monuments.
Crooke Religious House has been awarded funding via Stream 3, which provides grants of up to €30,000 for enhancement of access infrastructure and interpretation (including virtual/online) at archaeological monuments.
First established in 2020, the Community Monuments Fund supports a range of initiatives to conserve, maintain, protect and promote local monuments and historic sites.
