Convicted killer Molly Martens, who murdered her Irish husband, Jason Corbett, 11 years ago, is said to be pregnant with her new partner’s child.

Mr Corbett, a 39-year-old Irish businessman from Limerick, was found dead in his North Carolina home after suffering catastrophic head injuries in August 2015. Jason left behind two children, Jack and Sarah, from his first marriage.

Their mother, Margaret “Mags” Fitzpatrick, had died suddenly in 2006. Jason later met Molly Martens, who came to Ireland as an au pair to help care for the children. The couple eventually married and moved to North Carolina.

Martens and her father, former FBI agent Thomas Martens, denied murdering Jason. They claimed they had acted in self-defence. Both were initially convicted of second-degree murder in 2017 and sentenced to between 20 and 25 years.

Those convictions were later overturned. In 2024, after a retrial was avoided through a plea agreement, both entered pleas to voluntary manslaughter and were released after serving roughly four years in prison.

A statement from the family of Mr Corbett at the time said they were ‘deeply disappointed by the ‘release’ of the pair following a nine-year battle for justice.

‘The heinous actions of Tom and Molly Martens not only took Jason’s life in a malevolent, cruel and vicious manner but they also set about to tarnish his reputation and use his children in a self-serving attempt to evade accountability,’ the statement said.

‘Molly Martens relentlessly put Jack and Sarah into the centre of her bid to evade justice with a web of lies while refusing to take the stand to give evidence herself.’

Now it appears 42-year-old Martens is getting on with her life and expecting a baby with her new partner, Josh Parrott, who is several years her junior at 36.

Jason Corbett’s daughter, Sarah, has previously said she will not stay silent as Molly Martens moves on with her new life. Sarah was just eight years old when her father was killed. She said her dad didn’t get a chance to start over.

Nearly ten years after her father’s death, Sarah released a book titled ‘A Time for Truth’, which reflected on the aftermath of her father’s death and the family’s battle for justice. It also highlighted their devastation when the Martens were released from prison in 2024, after serving just three and a half years.

Earlier this year, Sarah Corbett Lynch wrote: ‘An article has been published about Molly Martens’ life now. I’m sharing it because I will not stay silent while the world moves on and the truth gets softened. My Dad, Jason Corbett, doesn’t get to start over. He is buried a mile from where I live alongside my birth Mother.

‘As a child, I lived through coercive control and abuse. I know exactly what it does to a child – how it steals your voice, your safety, your sense of reality. Finding my voice again has taken years.’

‘That is why I wrote A Time for Truth. Not for attention – but to shine a light on injustice, to tell the story from the child’s perspective, and to stand with every victim who has been silenced, manipulated, or disbelieved.

‘It’s also why I participated in the Netflix documentary – because the impact on children matters. And if this conversation helps even one person recognise coercive control, leave a dangerous situation, or protect a child, then speaking out matters.’

The Netflix documentary, released in May last year, detailed interviews with Molly and Tom Martens, in which they continued to claim they acted in self-defence.
