Families in Williamstown and surrounding areas are being invited to come together for the Sacred Heart Family Fun Day at the Williamstown Sports Complex this Saturday.

The free community event will run from 12 noon until 3 pm, with a wide range of activities planned for children, families and people of all ages.

The event, now in its third year, is organised by the Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre in collaboration with local sporting organisations, community groups and agencies.

Organisers say the day is an opportunity to showcase the facilities and organisations within the Williamstown community while bringing local families together before children return to school.

There will be plenty happening throughout the afternoon, including face painting, soccer activities, arts and crafts, a toddler play area, intergenerational games, music and a soaker.

Local sporting clubs will also be represented, giving families an opportunity to find out more about the activities available in the area.

The Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre will have a number of its staff and services involved, including its childcare team from Tiptoes Childcare, who will run a toddler play area and arts and crafts.

There will also be smoothie demonstrations, with free smoothies and flapjacks available.

Waterford Sports Partnership, Autism Friendly Waterford, Waterford Safety Partnership, local sports clubs and other community organisations will also be involved.

Transport and community initiatives will feature too, with Treo bringing bikes and showcasing its work with young people around bike maintenance and development.

The fire brigade will also attend, while a young autism ambassador will provide DJ entertainment during the afternoon.

There will be free food for families, including hot dogs and ice cream, while organisers are encouraging people living locally to walk to the event where possible.

A number of volunteers and community representatives will also take part in the popular soaker, with organisers promising plenty of fun throughout the afternoon.

Parking stewards will be in place, with visitors asked to be patient as the complex can become busy.

The organisers are stressing that the event is about creating a welcoming and inclusive day for the entire community, particularly ensuring that children who may not get an opportunity to go away during the summer still have something special to look forward to before returning to school.

The Sacred Heart Family Fun Day takes place this Saturday from 12 noon until 3pm at Williamstown Sports Complex.

Admission is free, and all are welcome. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
