Two people have pleaded guilty following the deaths of a husband and wife who died in a hit-and-run.

Georgina Hogg Moore and Anthony Hogg lost their lives when they were run down while out for a walk on St Stephen’s Day in 2024.

John Halpin of Whitestown Avenue in Blanchardstown pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and causing the deaths of the 38 and 39-year-old parents in a hit-and-run.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop and for leaving the scene of an accident and was ultimately jailed for five years.

The 46-year-old’s partner, Nicola Fallen, 35, also pleaded guilty to helping to impede his arrest.

She received a three-year sentence that was fully suspended, with the judge factoring in that the couple has four young children under the age of six.

Becky Joy Hogg, Georgina and Anthony’s 17-year-old daughter, was also present in court, per RTÉ stated that she was forced to witness something ‘no person should ever have to witness’.

On the day of the hit-and-run, she was meeting friends and decided to walk with her parents. In her victim impact statement, she recalls hearing her mother scream before she was hit by a car.

When she came to, the first thing she saw was her father bleeding heavily, and his lips turning blue. Then she experienced the traumatising sight of her mother’s body.

Georgina had been caught and dragged under the car, which left her body mangled, and this is something she has relived every single day.

She spoke of how her parents had worked so hard to have the life they achieved, but would never get the chance to live it, nor would they get the chance to grow old, ‘all because someone decided to run a red light and not stop his car when he was supposed to’.
