
A post-mortem examination is expected to get underway today on the body of an American woman, found dead at her home in Killarney, County Kerry, yesterday.
The woman, named locally as Jamey Noel Carney, 43, was found dead at a property on Muckross Road on Tuesday.
Jamey Noel Carney was originally from the Westchester area of New York, had relocated to Ireland several years ago. She has one daughter.
It is understood a relative, unable to contact Ms Carney, asked someone to call to the house, where her body was discovered.
The scene was sealed off for a forensic examination, and the Office of the State Pathologist was notified. The results of the post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death and guide the direction of the Garda investigation.
Investigators are examining all of the circumstances surrounding Ms Carney’s death. Gardaí have not publicly confirmed the cause of death and have not announced a murder investigation.
As part of their inquiries, detectives are seeking to trace a man who they believe may be able to assist them.
The chief suspect, who is known to Ms Carney, is believed to have escaped the area shortly after the woman’s horrific death.
Officers are also examining CCTV footage, carrying out door-to-door inquiries and appealing to anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between the evening of July 6 and the afternoon of July 7 to come forward, particularly if they have dashcam or security camera footage.
Ms Carney, originally from Westchester County in New York State, is understood to have moved to Ireland in 2021 after visiting Killarney, and to have been living in the town for several years with her teenage daughter.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said a senior investigating officer had been appointed to lead the inquiry and that an incident room had been established at Killarney Garda Station.
