An investigation is underway following the discovery of the body of an elderly woman at a property in County Waterford.

Gardaí were alerted shortly after 2pm on Monday to the discovery of the woman’s body at a residential property in Ardsallagh, near Youghal Bridge. The woman, who is believed to be in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The property has been preserved for a forensic examination.

The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and the Garda Technical Bureau has been asked to assist with the investigation.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place, with the results expected to help Gardaí determine the direction of their inquiries.
