Motorists are being advised to plan their journeys carefully this weekend as a series of road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place across Waterford City and County.
The traffic management measures will be implemented on Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st to facilitate a major event in the city and surrounding areas.
The first closure will come into effect from 4pm on Saturday when O’Connell Street, between Vulcan Street and Thomas Hill/Hanover Street, will close to traffic. The road will remain closed until 9pm on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, additional closures will be introduced in the city centre. The Mall and Parnell Street will be closed from 6am until 10.30am.
Several roads around the city centre and quays will also be closed between 8am and 3pm, including Bridge Street, Bilberry Road, Grattan Quay, Suir Street, Mary Street, Dyehouse Lane, Penrose Lane, Thomas Street and Thomas Hill.
Several roads in the county will be affected between 10am and 2pm. These include sections of Lissahane, Ardeenloun Crossing, Carrickanure Road and Greenan Road, with restrictions extending to Greenway crossings in the area.
Motorists should also expect lane closures along the city’s quays between 8am and 10am. The outbound lane from the Tower Hotel to Rice Bridge, including Parade Quay, Custom House Quay, Coal Quay, Meagher’s Quay and Merchants Quay, will be affected.
Additional lane closures will be in operation from Rice Bridge towards the N25 and on routes linking Sallypark, Newrath Roundabout and Grannagh. Similar restrictions will also apply on the Kilkenny side of the river.
Traffic disruption is expected at several key locations, including the Grannagh roundabout, the N25 Toll Plaza and the Newrath Roundabout. Delays are also anticipated on The Glen, where diversions will be in place from 8am until 2pm.
Authorities are advising motorists to allow extra travel time, follow diversion signage and consider alternative routes where possible.
Local access will be maintained throughout the event, and traffic management personnel will be on hand to assist where required.
