Unlocking the Census : The 1926 Census provides a snapshot of life in Ireland by documenting the island’s inhabitants of a century ago. It can provide basic details that aid the search and discovery of individual lives, unlocking family stories. Combined with further research, the aim is to build on the historical record by exploring lives concerning their loves and losses along with their livelihoods. These characters are recorded in black and white, but lived lives much more colourful than a census form can present. This includes English-born Ada Beazley, the hotel proprietress of the Adelphi Hotel in Waterford city. Her story shows a strength to strive to survive against many obstacles.
