Emergency services are understood to be responding to reports of a fire in the Comeragh Mountains this afternoon.

Large clouds of smoke can be seen rising from the mountains, with the blaze visible from a number of locations across County Waterford. The Irish Coast Guard helicopter has also been seen operating above the mountain as the response continues.

WLR understands from multiple sources in the area that there are reports of three separate fires burning in a line across the mountain. Those reports have not yet been officially confirmed by the emergency services.

Local sources have also told WLR that farmers are working to move sheep from the mountain as a precaution while emergency crews continue to respond.

WLR has contacted An Garda Síochána and the fire service for further information on the incident, including the extent of the fire and what may have caused it.

Members of the public are being urged to stay away from the area and keep access routes clear to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely.

There are no reports of any injuries at this time.
