Emergency services faced a busy afternoon on Sunday after responding to two separate fire incidents across County Waterford, with firefighting operations continuing in the Comeragh Mountains into the evening.

The larger of the two incidents broke out in the Comeragh Mountains, where large plumes of smoke were visible from several locations across the county.

Local reports from the area indicated that there were three separate fires burning in a line across the mountains.

Farmers in the area also moved sheep from the mountain as a precaution while firefighters continued their efforts to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Members of the public were urged to stay away from the area and keep access routes clear to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely. At the time of writing, there have been no reports of any injuries, and crews remain at the scene as firefighting operations continue.

Earlier in the day, emergency services also responded to a separate fire near the Metal Man in Tramore.

Three units of the fire service, along with An Garda Síochána, attended the incident where large clouds of smoke could be seen rising into the air. Motorists and members of the public were advised to avoid the area while emergency personnel dealt with the fire.

The nature and cause of both fires have not yet been confirmed.

Emergency services continue to monitor both incidents, with resources remaining focused on bringing the Comeragh Mountains fire under control.
