It’s a full summer feel across the county today as warm sunshine and clear skies see Waterford basking in some of the best conditions of the season so far.

Beaches are packed from early morning, with families, tourists and locals making the most of the dry, settled weather and the strong lift it’s bringing to coastal and inland areas.

Temperatures are sitting at around 22 degrees today, with forecasts showing highs of up to 24 degrees early next week, keeping the summer mood going.

In Tramore, Moe’s café says the town is buzzing with activity as visitors flock to the seafront.

Staff member Sarah Kennedy says, “We’re on the trot for the next few days, but look at where we’re working, we’re beside the beach. I want to mention all the staff here, they do an amazing job and will do so over the next few days. We are delighted to see the sun, it’s just buzzing here in Tramore. The Bike Show is in full swing and it brings the best crowd, the vibes are immaculate. I think everybody should be down soaking up the sun while we have it.”

In Dunmore East, Elaine Power of East Pier says the sunshine is a welcome boost after quieter spells.

She says, “Thankfully the sun has finally appeared. As anybody who is involved in business near a seaside resort, you need sunshine to bring the crowds. Thankfully the sun is shining today and we also have the RNLI charity swim here in Dunmore East so that brings another wave of people.”

In Dungarvan and West Waterford, Jenny Beresford, CEO of the Dungarvan and West Waterford Chamber, says people are making the most of the conditions.

She says, “We have absolutely everything and everyone is out and about exploring West Waterford and all it has to offer. It’s great that we can just go out and about and not have to worry about rain jackets and just enjoy ourselves. It’s also a welcome boost for seasonal business who depend so much on weather for trade.”

In Waterford city, owner of Revolution and Oscars bar’s Jim Flash Gordon says trade is strong with both locals and tourists on the streets.

He says, “I’m standing outside the Apple Market now, people are wandering around, enjoying the sun. There’s tourists and locals enjoying the day. We have a small cruise ship in today as well. The whole town is just in a good humour.”
