Parts of Ireland as Temperatures Set to Rise
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow High Temperature Warning for several counties as a spell of unusually warm weather is expected to bring daytime temperatures above 27°C and warm nights with minimum temperatures remaining above 15°C.
The warning applies to Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. It will come into effect at 1:00pm on Friday, 10 July 2026, and remain valid until 7:00am on Sunday, 12 July 2026.
According to Met Éireann, the combination of high daytime temperatures and mild overnight conditions may lead to a number of potential impacts across the affected areas.
Heat Stress and Health Concerns
With temperatures expected to exceed 27°C, people are being advised to take care during the warmest parts of the day, particularly those who are more vulnerable to heat, including older people, young children and those with underlying health conditions.
High temperatures can increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially during prolonged periods outdoors or during physical activity. Staying hydrated, wearing light clothing and avoiding excessive exposure to direct sunlight during peak heat hours can help reduce the risk.
Warm Nights Could Affect Sleep
The warning also highlights the possibility of uncomfortable sleeping conditions, as overnight temperatures are expected to remain above 15°C.
Warm nights can make it more difficult for homes to cool down, potentially affecting sleep quality. Keeping rooms ventilated where possible, closing blinds or curtains during the hottest parts of the day and using fans where available may help maintain a more comfortable indoor environment.
Water Safety Reminder
Met Éireann has also warned of potential water safety issues due to increased use of lakes, beaches and other swimming locations during the warm weather.
As more people take advantage of the sunshine, authorities are reminding the public to be cautious around water. Swimmers are encouraged to use designated bathing areas, follow local safety advice and avoid taking unnecessary risks in unfamiliar waters.
Advice During the Warm Spell
People are encouraged to:
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- Take breaks from the heat, especially during outdoor work or exercise.
- Check on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours.
- Never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles.
- Take extra care when swimming or spending time near water.
The warm conditions are expected to bring a welcome spell of summer weather for many, but the public is being urged to remain aware of the risks associated with high temperatures and to follow health and safety advice throughout the warning period.
Met Éireann’s Status Yellow warning will remain in place until Sunday morning, with further updates expected as the weather situation develops.
