Sports clubs in Tramore are calling for a dedicated long-term plan to ensure the town’s sporting facilities can keep pace with its rapidly growing population.
Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane says a number of local clubs have contacted him outlining concerns over capacity, with some organisations sharing facilities while others have already outgrown their existing homes.
He says the town’s recent housing growth has not been matched by investment in sports infrastructure.

Among those raising concerns are rugby, basketball, athletics and GAA clubs, who are jointly calling for a sports plan that would identify future needs, secure land for new facilities and support clubs in accessing capital funding.
Mr. Cullinane says one of the most positive aspects of the campaign is that clubs have come together to pursue a shared vision for sport in Tramore, rather than competing individually for resources.
Mr. Cullinane has written to the Chief Executive of Waterford City and County Council requesting a meeting with representatives of the clubs, and says he also plans to meet with them himself in the coming days.
He believes a coordinated sports strategy is needed to ensure children and adults continue to have access to quality facilities as Tramore continues to expand.
The call follows separate concerns raised in recent weeks over childcare provision in the town. Deputy Cullinan says while new housing developments are welcome, community infrastructure must keep pace with population growth, describing Tramore as ‘bursting at the seams.’
