A new Tallow community mural has brought a splash of colour and creativity to the town, as local students and volunteers came together to transform a public space.

Students from Tallow National School worked alongside members of the West Waterford Mental Health & Awareness Group to repaint and decorate the town’s public toilets, turning them into a vibrant and welcoming feature.

Students lead colourful transformation

The Tallow community mural project saw young artists take the lead, using bright colours and imaginative designs to reimagine the exterior of the building.

The initiative was supported by Waterford City and County Council and aimed to create a more inviting environment for both residents and visitors.

Strong sense of community spirit

The project attracted widespread local support, with families, residents and visitors stopping to watch and take part throughout the day.

Passers-by were encouraged to contribute their own ideas, adding to the collaborative nature of the Tallow community mural.

The event created a positive and inclusive atmosphere, highlighting the power of community-led initiatives.

Mental health awareness at the heart of project

Chair of the West Waterford Mental Health & Awareness Group, Councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy, praised the efforts of all involved.

“We are delighted with the outcome of this project and the support it has received. We particularly want to thank the volunteers and the students of Tallow National School for bringing their ideas, energy and enthusiasm,” he said.

“By combining creativity and collaboration, we hope the finished piece will serve as a reminder that community is at the heart of Tallow.”

Promoting positive wellbeing through creativity

The West Waterford Mental Health & Awareness Group focuses on promoting positive mental health and reducing stigma through community engagement.

Projects like the Tallow community mural form part of their wider work, which includes free workshops and outreach events across Waterford city and county.

A lasting addition to the town

The completed mural now stands as a colourful landmark in Tallow, reflecting both the creativity of local students and the strength of community collaboration.

It is hoped the project will continue to inspire similar initiatives in the future.
