Rain is on the way for most of the country, after the spell of hot weather abruptly ended this morning.

Irish people crowded onto the country’s beaches over the past few days to make the most of the unseasonably warm weather. Temperatures soared to the high 20s — with Met Éireann even issuing a high temperature warning for several counties in the west and south of the country.

However, all good things have to come to an end — and after a brief reprieve which saw the sun come back out with balmy temperatures, Met Éireann has warned that we’re looking at mixed conditions this Bank Holiday weekend.

Looking ahead to Saturday (May 30), it will be dry for a time in parts of the east and southeast before outbreaks of rain continue to extend eastwards. Some sunny spells and scattered showers will follow from the west, with highest temperatures of 15C to 20C.

There will be a mix of clear spells and showers on Saturday night, most frequent in the north and west. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in mostly light breezes.

Sunday will bring a mix of cloudy, hazy, and sunny spells, with scattered showers, becoming more isolated in the afternoon as sunnier spells develop. Cloud will build from the west, however, with outbreaks of rain developing for parts of Munster and Connacht by nightfall. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees.

The long weekend isn’t looking much better, with Bank Holiday Monday kicking off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, possibly turning heavy at times in Munster and Leinster. Showers will follow through the afternoon, but it will remain warm with highs of 15C to 20C.

Tuesday will see things look somewhat better, with sunshine broken by showers, some turning heavy. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C, before rain extends from the west on Tuesday night.
