South East Technological University (SETU) and Uniphar have signed a new agreement aimed at strengthening the link between pharmacy education and professional practice.
The SETU Uniphar partnership pharmacy education initiative will support the development of industry-ready graduates while enhancing collaboration between academia and the pharmacy sector.
Bridging education and real-world practice
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will see Uniphar engage directly with SETU students through guest lectures, placements and student supports.
A key element of the partnership is the involvement of teacher practitioners, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world pharmacy practice.
The collaboration will also support SETU’s Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme, ensuring students gain relevant, up-to-date industry experience.
Enhancing student opportunities
The SETU Uniphar partnership pharmacy education aims to provide students with practical exposure to the pharmacy profession, helping to build confidence and develop essential skills.
Professor Veronica Campbell, President of SETU, said the partnership reflects the university’s commitment to delivering relevant and impactful education.
She said the collaboration will “ensure that our pharmacy students benefit from real-world insight and experience” while creating meaningful pathways between education and practice.
Supporting future pharmacists
Dr Claire Lennon, Head of the Department of Pharmacy at SETU, said the agreement will help students connect with current industry trends and expectations.
She added that the partnership supports the goal of providing authentic learning experiences that strengthen professional identity and competence.
Industry commitment to education
Uniphar’s Director of Pharmacy, Shane O’Neill, said the company is committed to supporting the next generation of pharmacists.
He noted that the partnership reflects Uniphar’s strong presence in community pharmacy and its ongoing investment in education and professional development.
Long-term collaboration and innovation
The agreement also creates a framework for future initiatives between SETU and Uniphar, with a focus on innovation, lifelong learning and strengthening the pharmacy profession.
Both organisations say the partnership will benefit not only students and staff but also the wider healthcare system through improved patient care and professional standards.
