It looks like grey skies are on the way back, taking over from the sunshine the country has been enjoying, and the change to cloudy skies is due just before the Bank Holiday weekend begins.
Met Éireann says the rain is set to sweep across the country, turning heavy in places, but one part of Ireland may yet escape the worst of it.
It will still feel warm for this time of year, with temperatures climbing to a mild 14–18°C for most, but the southwest will feel a bit chillier at 12–14 degrees.

So, enjoy today while it lasts, because the band of rain is due to sweep across Ireland on Wednesday night and linger on into Thursday and into the Bank Holiday weekend, but some parts of the Northeast may escape the rain altogether.
Rain will gradually ease and become patchier on Thursday night with clear spells developing and lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light southeasterly winds.
Friday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers, with light winds again.

Cloudier on Saturday with widespread showers, some of which may turn heavy, but feeling colder with highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, but then turning cooler for Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday with a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells.
According to the Donegal Weather Channel on X, today, Tuesday, will be a very sunny day with pleasant spring sunshine across the whole country, and temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, and we are expecting similar for Wednesday.
However, the east will stay cooler, with temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather has posted a detailed map of showers and expected rainfall for the next few days and into the May Bank Holiday weekend.
So don’t pack away the umbrella just yet.
