The sun is in hiding this week, but Met Éireann has confirmed it won’t be for long as the forecaster confirmed warmer than average conditions are coming later in the month.

It comes following a glorious week last week, which saw near-30 °C heat in some areas of the country.

For the most part, the good spell of sun left before the bank holiday weekend, and unsettled conditions are confirmed for the week ahead.

The Extended Range Forecast says there will be low pressure systems tracking north over the country for the coming week with ‘above average rainfall’ throughout the country.

Met Éireann say the second week of June will see some improved conditions, though rainfall will ‘still be above average’ mostly in the west and northern areas.

From June 15, things are set to change as the national forecaster predicts ‘drier and warmer than average conditions.’

The final week of the month is more of the same with the warmer-than-average conditions set to continue.

Bank Holiday Monday is starting out dull with rain and drizzle, some of which is expected to turn heavy in the south and southwest with potential isolated thunderstorms.

Scattered showers are on the cards for Tuesday. Again, some of these will turn heavier throughout the day, with thunderstorms also a potential throughout the day.

Met Éireann say the opening days of June will be unsettled with rain and showers every day.

Wednesday will be a breezy day with rain and drizzle starting out and clearing throughout the morning.

Temperatures are still expected to range between 14 and 18 degrees, but will drop to around 13 to 16 on Thursday, which is forecast to be a cooler day with blustery showers with some sun breaks.

Friday is more of the same with scattered showers, though Met Éireann have predicted some longer dry spells.

Looking towards the weekend, there isn’t much of a change with unsettled conditions and rain showers throughout.
