Ireland has endured a mixed start to June as vibrant summer weather continues to be hesitant in its arrival.

While the end of May saw high temperatures and sun-soaked days, the past week has been broken up by scattered showers and cool conditions.

Despite signs of sunshine beginning to reemerge, the forecast unfortunately looks like it will have to get worse before it gets better.

Warmer days are on the horizon again, though heavy rain, hail and isolated thunderstorms are also on their way.

Met Éireann has warned that these un-summerlike conditions are set to hit on Tuesday, across a day that will be ‘cool for this time of year’.

There will be further clear spells and heavy showers on Tuesday night, primarily in the West, with temperatures dropping to as low as 4C.

Met Éireann continued: ‘Wednesday will be bright with sunny spells and scattered showers, which will gradually die out through the late afternoon and evening. Cloud will increase from the West through the evening.

‘On Wednesday night, rain will develop in the west and spread eastwards across the country, heavy at times…

‘Thursday will start off wet with widespread rain, which will clear eastwards by early afternoon. The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of showery rain. Some brighter intervals will develop too.’

Thursday night will see a return of milder temperatures, though outbreaks of rain and drizzle will remain.

While there will still be some patches of rain on Friday, it will be a mostly dry day as temperatures rise back up to around 20C.

Heading into the weekend, the national forecaster said: ‘Saturday will start off mostly cloudy in Ulster with patchy rain or drizzle in places. Brighter weather further south will extend to all areas in the afternoon.

‘It will be a noticeably warmer day with highest temperatures of 17C to 21C in Connacht and Ulster and reaching between 22C and 25C in Leinster and Munster with light to moderate southwest breezes.’

Sunday looks set to be similarly warm and dry in most places, with temperatures reaching up to 24C and just a hint of rain or drizzle.

Met Éireann concluded: ‘At the moment it looks like there will be some rain at times early next week with temperatures dropping back to the mid to high teens.’
