A number of chicken products have been recalled by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) due to potential salmonella presence.
Among the recalls are Western Brand products and Manor Farm products, with a number of supermarkets selling the implicated items.
An urgent notice from the FSAI urged consumers not to eat the implicated batches.

The authority added that while a number of the products have passed their use-by date, they are suitable for home freezing, so households may still have them.
Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch.
A wide range of Western Brand chicken products, sold in Lidl, are being recalled.

This includes diced chicken fillets, mini chicken fillets, chicken fillets, chicken, thighs, whole chicken, sweet chilli/ peri peri chicken wings and more.
The product sizes vary dependent on the product, however the use by date ranges between April 12 and 13.

Symptoms of salmonella infection typically develops between 12 and 36 hours after infection.
This can vary however, with some cases found as early as six hours after, and as late as 72 hours later.
The FSAI notes the most common symptoms include diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.
‘Other symptoms may include fever, headache and adbominal cramps,’ the authority details.
‘The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhea can occasionally be sever enough to require hospital admission.’
Those most susceptible to severe illness are elderly people and infants, as well as those with impaired immune systems.
