Thousands of televisions sold in shops across Ireland have been urgently recalled due to a potential fire risk.

The recall affects more than 6,300 TVs sold under the Toshiba, Technika, Walker and NordMende brands, with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) warning consumers to stop using affected products immediately.

According to the watchdog, the issue is not with the televisions themselves but with certain UK power plugs supplied with the units.

The CCPC said the fuse inside some plugs may fail to operate correctly if an electrical fault occurs.

‘If an electrical fault occurs, the fuse may fail to disconnect the power supply, allowing electricity to continue flowing into the TV, which could lead to overheating or fire,’ the commission warned.

Around 6,206 Toshiba, Technika and Walker televisions sold between October 2025 and April 2026 are affected, along with 189 NordMende televisions.

Customers are being advised to switch off affected televisions, unplug them from the mains and contact the relevant distributor for a free replacement fuse or power cable.

NordMende customers should contact Gowan Home on 01 413 6400 or by email at sales@gowanhome.ie.

Consumers can check whether their television is affected by locating the serial number on the rating label at the back of the set.
