Irish fans are already calling it a must-watch, after Nicola Coughlan dropped a teaser for her upcoming hosting gig on Saturday Night Live UK.

The Galway star appears in the promo looking hilariously dishevelled, rocking the same outfit she wore during her cameo in the show’s very first episode.

Fully committing to the bit, Nicola strolls onto set acting like she never left, telling two of the show’s comedians that it’s good to be back, while they look increasingly concerned about just how seriously she’s taking the job.

The reaction online has been instant. Her Derry Girls co-star Siobhán McSweeney was quick to show support, commenting: ‘this is going to be wonderful.’

Even the official Saturday Night Live account got involved, writing: ‘oh this is gonna be a GREAT episode.’

Fans, meanwhile, are already convinced she’s about to steal the show.

One wrote: ‘she’s actually gonna be the most perfect host, this promo is so good,’ while another added: ‘I haven’t been this excited for an SNL host in so long!! Captain Nic, for what will be one of the most memorable and astonishing SNL episodes ever!!!’

The hype comes after a strong start for the UK version of the iconic US sketch show.

The debut episode aired last month with Tina Fey taking on hosting duties, while familiar Irish faces have already made their mark.

Nicola herself popped up in that first episode alongside Graham Norton, delivering a standout moment from the audience where she cheekily questioned why a British icon hadn’t been chosen to host.

‘Is it possible that many of us were a little reluctant to be in the first show because this is going out in Britain and British people tend to root for the failure of others?’ she joked, before quickly clarifying her own allegiance.

When Tina Fey pushed back, Nicola didn’t miss a beat: ‘I’m Irish… educate yourself.’

Since then, Irish representation has continued, with Jamie Dornan stepping in as a recent guest host.

Now, it’s Nicola’s turn to take centre stage, with music from Foo Fighters set to feature on the night.
