Shane Coleman has been confirmed as the new host of Virgin Media TV’s The Tonight Show.
The presenter has been fronting the flagship current affairs programme for the last number of months.
The post had been vacant following Kieran Cuddihy’s brief stint last year. Cuddihy promptly moved to RTÉ, where he presents Radio 1’s Liveline.

On Thursday, June 25, a spokesperson for Virgin Media TV confirmed Coleman’s permanent role.
The statement said the presenter would ‘continue to bring viewers his sharp analysis and considered takes on the biggest news and current affairs stories.’
They said: ‘His appointment reinforces Virgin Media Television’s commitment to public service journalism, delivering independent, accessible and agenda-setting content that informs and challenges audiences.’

Reacting to the news, Shane said he had ‘really enjoyed’ the gig in the last number of months and was ‘delighted’ to be taking it on full-time.
He said: ‘It’s a hugely important space for discussion and debate, and it plays a big role in how we talk about the issues that matter.
‘I’m looking forward to building on that and continuing to bring viewers a programme that feels engaging, relevant and in tune with what’s happening across the country.

Head of News at Virgin Media TV Ruairi Carroll lauded Shane’s ‘deep understanding’ of current affairs, noting the presenter had ‘already made a deep impact’ as guest presenter.
‘His appointment reflects our commitment to public service journalism — ensuring our audiences are informed, challenged and engaged through balanced, rigorous and independent coverage.’
Shane also presents Newstalk’s The Hard Shoulder weekdays from 4pm to 7pm, alongside Ciara Kelly. He will continue in this role.
The Tonight Show airs on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Play Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10pm.
