CMAT has invited Olivia Rodrigo out for a pint after the chart-topping US star surprised fans by performing one of the Irish artists songs live on BBC Radio 1.

The unexpected tribute came during Rodrigo’s Live Lounge appearance, where the Grammy-winning singer chose to put her own spin on CMAT’s track ‘When A Good Man Cries.’

Before launching into the performance, Rodrigo revealed that she had only recently discovered the Irish artist’s music but had quickly become a huge fan.

The American singer praised CMAT’s songwriting, describing her as one of the most distinctive artists around and saying the song immediately stood out to her.

Rodrigo also revealed that working on the cover had become a family affair, explaining that she and her dad enjoyed putting the performance together.

The cover quickly took off online, attracting huge attention across social media as fans praised Rodrigo’s version of the County Meath singer’s track.

But it was CMAT’s reaction that really got people talking.

Responding on Instagram, she joked that Rodrigo had performed the song better than she ever could, then extended a simple invitation to the superstar: ‘Pints?’

CMAT also shared a video of herself watching the performance for the first time, visibly delighted as Rodrigo sang the lyrics, particularly when a reference to her hometown of Dunboyne came up.

The moment marks yet another nod from Rodrigo towards Irish music.

Over the past few years, the singer has repeatedly shown her appreciation for Irish artists during visits to Dublin, having previously performed a version of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ and later covering Fontaines D.C.’s ‘I Love You‘ at Irish tour stops.

Now fans are hoping CMAT’s invitation doesn’t go unanswered, with many already imagining what might happen if two of the biggest names in pop ended up sharing a few pints in an Irish pub.
