
Clare claimed the Daryl D’Arcy Cup and picked up their first win in Phase 2 of the Electric Ireland Munster MFC in Leamybrien last night by virtue of a six point win over Waterford (2-8 to 0-8).
After a tight and tense first-half, the sides were level at the interval (0-3 apiece) with Aidan McMaugh kicking two fine scores for the hosts in that opening half.
Brendan Kearney’s charges hit the front early in the second period thanks to a fine two pointer from wing-back Liam O’ Grady.
A Dara Gough free pushed the Dèise three points in front, but it was from here where Clare took over.
A brace of quick fire goals from player of the match Thomas Dillon gave the Banner a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, with inspirational midfielder Shane Cahill ending with three points from play.
Waterford will aim to get back on track on Monday evening next, May 11th when they travel to face unbeaten Cork in Pàirc Uì Rìnn for Round 3, in Phase 2.
