Waterford FC have announced the signing of a defender ahead of their game against Shamrock Rovers on Friday evening.
19 year old Nigerian Goforth Amedu, who was signed in February, was only confirmed to have received his work permit this week and joins the club on a deal until the end of the season.
The versatile defender, who can also play in central midfield, began his career at FC One Rocket in the Nigerian third tier, before singing for Bayelsa United FC in the summer of 2024, where he spent one season with the Nigeria Professional Football League side – the highest level of club football in Nigeria.
Goforth spent the second-half of 2025 with Warri Wolves in the second-tier of Nigerian football, as he now makes the move to the League of Ireland with the Blues for the remainder of 2026.
Speaking on his signing with the Blues, Goforth spoke of his excitement to get straight to work with his new teammates, saying:
“I’m delighted to be here at Waterford & excited to get going. Having to wait a while to get here, I’m just focused now on meeting my new teammates and trying my very best to help make a positive impact on our season.
I’m looking forward to seeing all our supporters at the RSC on Friday for another important game, as we look to build on last week’s win.”
Goforth Amedu will wear the number 32 shirt for the Blues.
