Shane Lowry finished in a share of 22nd place at last week’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The Offaly man started the day in the top 5 and found himself in the top 10 until late errors on the back nine on Sunday saw him fall to 22nd. Dropped shots on 14, 16, and 17 and a closing par meant Shane finished the day level par, his highest score of the week.

Final-day falloffs have unfortunately been the story of Shane Lowry’s last 12 months or so. When Lowry was the runner-up at the Truist Championship last season, he bogeyed two of the last three holes. In Dubai, Lowry double-bogeyed the last hole in the final round and lost by two strokes.

At the Cognizant Classic, less than two months later, Lowry led by three shots with three holes to play on Sunday and committed two double-bogeys. Then, Lowry shot eight-over-par on the final day of this year’s Masters, leaving him T30 for the week.

But despite all that, the 39-year-old can hold his head high this week, as even though he finished low, he played a lot of good golf, which will surely fill him with confidence for the coming weeks.

His share of 22nd place last week in Connecticut saw Shane Lowry take home a nice paycheque of €185k, which is unfortunately about €275k shy of the cheque for a top-10 finish, which he would likely have achieved barring late errors.

The most important thing to take away from the week for Lowry is that he is back to playing good golf. There had been signs throughout the season, but last week it looked like he was enjoying his golf a little bit more.

The Irishman will be hoping to build on his performance at the Travelers Championship when he comes back across the pond for some links golf at The Scottish Open and The Open Championship.
