For the best part of 20 years, Roy Keane and Sir Alex Ferguson barely exchanged a word.

However, in his new book, Fergie appeared to extend an olive branch to Roy as he heralded his performance in a 1999 Champions League semi-final against Juventus.

Two nil down early in the encounter, Roy inspired United’s famous comeback, scoring the first before driving them on to a 3-2 victory. They would go on to win the Champions League, defeating Bayern Munich in the final.

Fergie’s praise

Speaking in his new book, Games of my Life, Ferguson heaps praise on his former captain, writing: ‘I know Roy isn’t an attention seeker and shrugs off the praise that others heap on him.

‘He poured every ounce of his being into that game. It was his greatest night in red.’

‘For as long as tales are told about the exploits of United, Roy’s performance amid the smoke flares and drumming of the Stadio Delle Alpi is one that will stay with me forever and deserves to be passed down through the generations.’

Speaking at a charity event in Ireland back in 2015, Roy also sounded ready to move on, reflecting warmly on his time under Sir Alex.

‘I fell out with Ferguson towards the end, but I had 12 and a half great years working with him and I wouldn’t swap it for anything,’ he said. ‘It was brilliant.’

In typically dry fashion, he added: ‘I get worried if I don’t fall out with people every few months.’

Whether the pair ever reunite or not, Roy’s post-playing success is undeniable, and attention has now turned to just how much the Cork man is worth.

Here is a look at Roy Keane’s fortune.

So what is Roy Keane worth?

Estimates of Keane’s net worth vary, but most place his fortune somewhere between £46 million and £50 million, or roughly €53 million to €58 million.

Whichever figure is closest, it reflects a career that has kept him among the game’s biggest earners long after he hung up his boots.

How he built his fortune

A large chunk was earned on the pitch. Keane was one of the best-paid players of his era, with reports suggesting his United wages eventually climbed to a deal worth around £2.75 million a year.

The bigger story, though, is how much he has made since. Keane has become one of the most sought-after voices in football punditry, with his work for Sky Sports and ITV, along with the hugely popular Stick to Football podcast, reportedly earning him a substantial annual income.

Two bestselling autobiographies, Keane and The Second Half, also added to the pot.

From Mayfield to Old Trafford

Now 55, the Mayfield man remains one of Ireland’s greatest ever sportspeople. Signed by United from Nottingham Forest in 1993 for a then British record £3.75 million, he went on to captain the club to a host of major honours, winning the Premier League and the FA Cup multiple times.

He was a driving force in the famous 1999 treble, though suspension cruelly ruled him out of the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

He left United in 2005 after a now-infamous MUTV interview, ending the relationship with Ferguson that only now appears to be mending.
