Following two years at the helm of the Waterford senior hurling team, Peter Queally has confirmed that he will not be continuing in the role of senior manager.

The term of his tenure was for two years, which has now been fulfilled. There was an option to extend the term to a third year, however following recent discussions with the Chairman of the Board, Peter says he was disappointed to learn that he did not have the full support of the Board to continue in the role and so he has decided to part ways.

As he concludes his tenure, Peter says he expresses his sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the team’s efforts over the past two seasons. He extended his thanks to his management and backroom team for their commitment and support, to the players for their dedication and huge effort and personal sacrifice, and to the loyal Waterford supporters who stood behind the team throughout both league and championship campaigns over the past two years.

Reflecting on his time in charge, Peter said:

“It has been a privilege to manage my own county and to work alongside such a committed group of players and mentors. While we didn’t achieve everything we hoped to over the past two years, I can honestly say that everyone involved gave their all in trying to move the team forward. I want to thank the players for their commitment, the backroom team for their dedication and professionalism, my family for their unwavering support and the supporters who continued to stand by us throughout.”

Peter also acknowledged that there were challenges during his tenure and expressed some disappointment that the level of support available from the board to the management team was not always what he had hoped for.

“Any role of this nature comes with challenges, and while there are aspects of my time that I reflect on with some disappointment, my overriding feeling is one of gratitude. I firmly believe Waterford has the players, the people and the potential to compete at the highest level once again.”

Peter Queally concluded by wishing the players and the county every success in the years ahead.

“Waterford Hurling means everything to me. I wish every player the very best for the future and I sincerely hope to see the county back competing at the very top table of senior hurling where it belongs.”
