The opportunity for a money-spinning farewell fight for Katie Taylor at Croke Park has been significantly boosted by the arrest of Daniel Kinahan.

A source connected to the planned bout revealed: ‘There is a great deal more willingness to move: especially from the GAA.’

Ms Taylor has avoided any entanglement with Daniel Kinahan or his MTK boxing promotion company.

One political source said: ‘There was a worry that there would be photographs of Kinahan in the background. That arrest is seeing doors open more swiftly.’

The Taylor farewell fight is expected to be a joint promotion by Peter Aiken and Eddie Hearn, aided by sponsorship from the Department of Culture and Sport.

One Government figure said: ‘The bill for the event could be significant. It might take up to €10million.’
